$14M contract for MountainStar Resort

By JOURNAL STAFF

CLE ELUM, Kittitas County -- MountainStar Resort Development recently awarded a $14 million contract to USFilter Operating Services to design, build and start up a 3.6 million-gallon-per-day regional wastewater treatment plant in Cle Elum.

The new plant will support MountainStar, a 6,000-acre resort, and the communities of Cle Elum, South Cle Elum and Roslyn.

It will take USFilter two years to build the plant. During that time, the company will provide interim operations and management of the city's existing 1.5 million-gallon-per-day plant. After the project is finished, USFilter will transition operations and management of the new and the existing plants to the city and its operator of choice.

Design and construction of the plant began in October 2003, and startup and testing are anticipated for October 2005. Parametrix is the design engineer and RCI Construction Group is performing most of the construction. Both are based in Sumner.

MountainStar is a joint venture partnership between Jeld-Wen of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Los Angeles, Calif.-based Lowe Enterprises.
