North Adams still considering water system public private partnership
USFilter leads the pack in trying to get contract

Bob Nason is now running the North Adams, MA, DPW. Apparently no one is in a hurry to replace former Supervisor Ken LaBier.

The principal issue before the DPW and North Adams  is the process of outsourcing the town sewer and water system.

“The head of the water treatment plant did some investigating about U.S. Filter and discovered that taxpayers will be paying a 4 to 7 percent increase if privatization passes. But that information has disappeared.” According to a local DPW worker named Jeff Ferrin. Ferrin is a seasonal employee of the town who has been overlooked three times for a full-time job. He questioned why public hearings on the subject, promised by the Selectboard last May, have not been forthcoming.
