Calgon Carbon stock surges

Friday January 6, 9:07 am ET

Calgon Carbon Corp. saw its share price surge more than 15 percent on the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday, despite an absence of company-related news.

Calgon Carbon (NYSE:CCC - News), located outside Pittsburgh in Robinson Township, provides carbon used to remove contaminants and odors from air and water.

Shares for the company rose 15.47 percent to close at 6.94, and had topped $7 during the day.

On Tuesday, the company unveiled a new wastewater disinfection system, and on Wednesday was mentioned as a stock to watch by CNBC "Mad Money" host Jim Cramer.

Calgon Carbon spokeswoman Gail Gerono said the company did not issue any news that would have sparked the increase, but said Cramer's mention that the stock price was undervalued could have led to the rise.
