Village of Marcellus, MI Extends Contract with Severn
Fort Washington, Pa. - Jan.
15, 2004 -Severn Trent Services announced that its contract with the
Village of Marcellus, MI has been extended for another year. Severn
Trent Services will continue to provide public works, water and
wastewater services, meter reading, billing, and collections to the
southwestern Michigan town. Approximate value of the contract is
Severn Trent Services was first awarded the contract to assist in the
development of a new wastewater treatment plant in November 1998. Upon
assuming responsibility of the Village's utility system, Severn Trent
determined that a new treatment plant was not needed and recommended
against the construction. The Village saved over $2,000,000. Severn
Trent has also assisted the Village with various capital projects,
including building a new water tower, the expansion of the water
distribution system, and rebuilding the local street system.
The Marcellus system includes a 0.35-MGD water system and 0.15-MGD
wastewater system (lift stations and 12-acre, 2-cell facultative lagoon
system) that serves 1,200 residents.
