Village of Marcellus, MI Extends Contract with Severn Trent Services

Fort Washington, Pa. - Jan. 15, 2004 -Severn Trent Services announced that its contract with the Village of Marcellus, MI has been extended for another year. Severn Trent Services will continue to provide public works, water and wastewater services, meter reading, billing, and collections to the southwestern Michigan town. Approximate value of the contract is $140,000.

Severn Trent Services was first awarded the contract to assist in the development of a new wastewater treatment plant in November 1998. Upon assuming responsibility of the Village's utility system, Severn Trent determined that a new treatment plant was not needed and recommended against the construction. The Village saved over $2,000,000. Severn Trent has also assisted the Village with various capital projects, including building a new water tower, the expansion of the water distribution system, and rebuilding the local street system.

The Marcellus system includes a 0.35-MGD water system and 0.15-MGD wastewater system (lift stations and 12-acre, 2-cell facultative lagoon system) that serves 1,200 residents.
