American Water Works has agreed to purchase Anglian Water's 50% interest in AmericanAnglian Environmental Technologies in an all cash offer. Neither party revealed the amount paid by American Water but it is termed "considerable."

The transaction, scheduled to close in early November, has been in discussion for several months and considered by both parties as a decision without rancor.

A high ranking source at American Anglian ventured a guess that Anglian would return to the US market on its own or with an new US partner in early 2000.

American Water will be running its contract operations business through its own field force which is now in 23 states.
